pheasant and tweed lady by margolily

Margolily has been away on her holidays and a stack of sewing awaits but before I get to that first to get to this!! Super congratulations to Dawn for correctly guessing the inspiration behind margolily’s ginormous headpiece worn at the vintage fair!  Lucky Dawn wins a £10 voucher to use towards any margolily treat her heart desires! The headpiece combined tweeds and feathers following the RSPB’s description of pheasants both lady and gentleman:

“A large, long-tailed gamebird. Males have rich chestnut, golden-brown and black markings on body and tail, with a dark green head and red face wattling. Females are mottled with paler brown and black”

A super duper day for margolily at the QMU yesterday! Restrained enough not to go crazy at all the stalls bursting with vintage goodies and lots of gorgeous gals now rocking their new margolily headpieces! Before the stall was ransacked by bigspenders it looked like this…

Margolily brain now swirling with ideas…I think some fluffy, furry pieces might be debuting soon and a Chanel inspired step by step margolily commission may follow too! Great chatting to so many creative types, chocolate makers, film makers, art school teachers and stylish folks! Thanks to lovely friends for popping by and feeding me sweeties, water and love xx

Margolily has also been PR extraordinaire for Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair. Who knew flyering was such hard work!? And expensive! On route I managed to buy a toy rabbit, a mad feather hat, some glue, a smoothie and a flapjack! The City Retro Fashion shop in the Merchant City, Cookie in the South Side and Lavender Blue florists in the west end win the prizes for best receipt of flyers, coolest shop and loveliest people! When I’m not hawking my wares at the Vintage Fair this Sunday perhaps I’ll get lucky and find  myself a rootin tootin pair of cowboy boots to see me through rain, sunshine, rain, bluster and Glasgow days till next June! Come down to the QMU Sunday 19th September 12-5pm…there will be masses of vintage delights and goodies! Yippeedoodah!
Here is a sneaky peak at on of the vintage inspired pieces I have been working on…

Frida Kahlo Scrap Headpiece by margolily

A little bit closer

Margolily set herself a challenge this week! Out to the garden, sunshine in the air, tunes on and only allowed to make a headpiece using the contents of my scrap bag.

Here are the ingredients of this little twilight, Frida Kahlo esque beauty…

Bits left over from a harris tweed beanbag, crimson red pom pom left over from a long ago scarf, a scrap of purple felt embroidered and turned into flowers and leaves, roses made from straps that were once a very nice top, a teeny scrap of precious Antique Warehouse discovered lace, peacock silk organza from a badly cut out flower, cerise satin remnants from a bag lining, eye popping feathers left over from a piece made for Fabhatrix and a little velvet flower that came from a birthday present once upon a time…oh and I cheated, I cheated I used two beads from my bead tin!

Wear it!

What a whirlwind of a week!

First of all lets cheer and blow a whistle for margolily competition winner Wendy Killin! Thank you to all those who entered! Lucky Wendy remembered that the brooch in my headpiece was given to me by my Granny! Yippee for Wendy! A £10 margolily voucher will be winging it’s way to her very soon!

Margolily has been working in blues this week! Perhaps will get Joni Mitchell on the stereo in a moment! I’ve made myself a turquoise wowser of a headpiece, a riot of feathers, scarlet architectural lines and paint splattered handmade silk flowers! Spraying red paint all over silk flowers is very fun! Then an appointment with a very lovely bride to be, lots of 1940′s inspirations and gorgeous rhinestone and blue brooch to be incorporated into her headpiece. Blue is her favourite colour, so this margolily week is going her way! Then a last minute commission for a customer of Lisa at Raw Vintage. We worked together with the remnants of her bespoke dress and jacket to create an aqua beauty, quite  a different design for margolily, using lots of luxurious aqua fabric, curled biot feathers and a spray of silver tucked in too!
