margolily in the navy

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

Not a sailor in sight… but yup it’s a margolily week of French Navy commissions, and each one strikingly different from the other. I’ve just finished working on a navy feather and netted headpiece studded in beautiful deep tiger eye beading for a mother of the bride who said no to giant hats and a hearty big yes to margolily feathers and delicate detail! A vintage style garter with touches of french navy is underway for a lucky bride. A dark haired beauty has had me working on this intricate piece with lace and hints of gold, this 1930′s inspired piece, with long ribbon fastening will look stunning with a slick of red lipstick! Flappers were known for their seemingly outlandish use of excessive make up apparently! Margolily says go for it!

A reminder too that margolily will be at the Barras Supermercado this Saturday 30th October 10.30-5pm along with lots of other lovely, cool stall holders.

Ooh and super web man has put a like button on the blog, like me, like me!

margolily gets spooky

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

There’s no snoopy harp or naked lady dancing but margolily is steeped in the eerie world of The Wickerman! Greg’s mum asked for a gothic, Halloween headpiece but it seemed a little incongruous to make your mother in law a witches hat…I thought I’d go for a horror movie inspired piece and set about The Shining, Suspiria, The Exorcist and Rosemary’s Baby but blood and crucifixes didn’t seem right…so a Wickerman inspired, giant reindeer antler it is! The antler is bound in black ribbon, finished with a giant black silk rose, merry widow netting and burnt peacock feathers! It’s all wrapped up ready to post, along with a mini, demure version for when the pagan dancing abates! A photo will make it to the gallery sometime soon! If anyone else is brave enough, let me know I’ve an antler in the fireplace and the cats would be delighted if someone would make it go away!

Golden Margolily

Golden brown texture like sun…hum, hum, hum, hum! Thank you to The Stanglers! Working on a divine commission for a lovely mother of the bride, who even came to her appointment wearing an antique gold skirt so we could match her hairpiece just so! Have unearthed amazing gold metallic netting and can’t believe I’ve not attached it to everything I own never mind to every headpiece I make! So work is under way for this late December wedding, gold netting, vintage brooch, deep gold swarovskis to pick out the dark gold embroidery on the shoes, a dash of lace and ivory feathers. In my mind I am wearing this Alexander McQueen coat whilst I sew…rather than my giant wooly socks and fake furry wrap!
