margolily plays shops

Monday, November 15th, 2010

Maybe working in the Sentry Box toy shop all those years ago or once upon a time trying to sell my wee brother pegs, or perhaps many Blue Peter Bring and Buy Sales set the scene for a margolily gal to like playing at shops! For this week truly has been a Mary Portas style shopping extravaganza! Headed though to Edinburgh to visit lovely Karina at Kakao by K. Alongside luxurious and exclusive clothing in Kakao you will find classic, Chanel inspired, vintage glamour margolily headpieces. At the moment Kakao are also stocking a real Hollywood starlet treat, black and gold flecked bow and netting headpiece, beautiful! Stopped off at Fabhatrix in the Grass Market, where amongst a treasure trove of hats and headpieces you will find margolily’s tartan and Scottish inspired pieces. In Glasgow margolily pops up at markets such as Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair, Supermercado at the Barras and Sloans. At the markets you get the perfect chance to have a gab with me as well as try on headpieces in every colour. Pieces available at the markets usually have a magpie treasure inspiration using lots of vintage brooches and jewellery in their designs. If you can make it margolily will be at Sloans this very Saturday 20th November 11-5pm

Brides and wedding guests find margolily in all kinds of places from wedding shows to magazines, from dress designers to friends. Wedding pieces are often made using remnants from bespoke dresses, pearls and sparkle. Margolily will happily attend hair trials and dress fittings to make what you want exactly yours.

Of course your margolily headpiece may come straight from your imagination..in which case margolily will work with you to create something stunning! Check out the gallery too!

Ooh and you can find me on Folksy too for all manner of treats in any style you wish!

Margolily Says Thank You

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Margolily survival this week has depended on a rallying team of lovely, super people and grapefruits (they keep you awake at 3am when sewing!) Sausage sandwich provision, homemade cookies, lots of wine, team massage, pizza hut delivery, early morning text motivation and a boyfriend home from America! Yeeha! Thank you! With all that going on I managed to complete 3 bouquets, 4 buttonholes and 4 wrist corsages in a super fast week to the delight of a left in the lurch bride. Margolily is now known in some circles as a wedding fairy! Photos are underwraps for now so as surprises and squeals of happy are still in store for the big day this Saturday!

And here below is a peek at margolily’s piece being put together for the Scottish Wedding Directory. Thank you, gorgeous Paula!

margolily’s extra hour

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Well, well…margolily does not rest on her laurels! Hit the Barras on Saturday, ate spooky cakes from the Flamingo Bakery …and chatted to lovely stall holders Debbie and Caroline – admired their prints, treasures and exceptionally cool, wish I had one….mug! Picked up a flyer for the Panopticon the other day which said to dress like it was snowing inside – good advice! Sunday – braved west end zombie walk, terrifying subway train passed me by filled with zombies – am I in 28 Days Later? Met gorgeous bride (with a black eye from polo!) to hand deliver her headpiece for wedding this coming weekend – just wait for the photo story we have planned! Yeeha! It’s like a Jackie annual minus the advice on kissing and spots!

Set up a margolily shop on folksy and spied hundreds of cool designer makers too – think Christmas presents for other people not presents for self! Prepared box of pieces to send to Scottish Wedding Directory photo shoot, fingers crossed a margolily piece makes the cut! Started to plan for market at Sloans coming up…and doo doo doooh! Margolily to the rescue! A margolily bride in distress, let down by her previous bouquet maker in outrageous fashion. Margolily is now living and breathing button holes, corsages and bouquets in time for the very soon to arrive big day! Pheweee! Margolily likes a challenge! Back to the sewing, with hot water bottle at my feet!
