margolily loves holidays

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

Royal wedding headpiece wearing musings will of course be high on the margolily agenda this week…the pomp…the spectacle…Elton John…I will be taking notes on what outrageous and stylish guests alike have on their heads at the whole affair on Friday!

In the meantime Easter holidays took me and phantom boy to The Burrel Collection at Pollok Park where they are exhibiting China through the Lens of John Thomson 1868-1872. Extraordinary and intriguing photos. Wonderfully too he was fascinated by women’s hairstyles and had this to say…

“I confess myself unable to explain the mysterious mode in which the tresses have been twisted but careful study of the illustration will reward any lady who desires to dress her hair a la Manchu”

Margolily a la Manchu? We shall see! Eat cakes, drink champagne and happy holidays xx

Margolily Secret Garden Designs

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

The sun is shining, I’ve had two weeks off work, stitching and beading my heart out and here I am a happy lady! Here is a secret peek at a new design being worn by a tremendous and lovely mother of the bride for her daughter’s wedding in the botanic gardens this summer. I have adored making this piece. I love the beautiful plume of french navy, purple and turquoise ostrich feathers and working on hand beading each of the three hydrangeas in coordinating swarovskis and gentle sparkle was a fabulous challenge! The bride’s headpiece got away before I remembered to photograph it!  Whoops! Imagine plum feathers, real hydrangeas and mum’s precious silver dove earrings tucked into a pretty design that will look gorgeous on the big day! Ooh…I love a fancy commission, garden themed is one of my very favourites!

Margolily in Australia

Monday, April 11th, 2011

I am bowled over by these stunningly happy and dramatic photos from gorgeous Karli. Karli and Kris got married early this year in their home land, Australia. Lisa at Dragonfly Dress Design in Glasgow designed Karli’s dress whilst margolily created a delicate pewter and ice blue hair vine to compliment the detailing in the dress.

Karli let margolily know her thoughts…

“Thank you so much for the head piece you made for my wedding. It was gorgeous and was perfect for the day.”

french navy and gold for a margolily wedding

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

Margolily has been a sleeping beauty these passed few weeks, but here I am wide awake with a collection of stunning bridal photos! Laura got married at Hogmany just like in Sunset Song! A glitzy, gorgeous wedding accented by a golden margolily headpiece for the lovely mother of the bride and a vintage french navy garter for the blushing bride!

Here too are their very welcome thoughts on margolily…

My mum and I wanted to say a huge thank you for the beautiful things you made for my wedding. My mum’s headpiece is stunning and she received countless compliments on the day. It made her feel very special and she looked fantastic. Thank you also for the garter you made for me, it was perfect and is now safely kept in my wedding memories box. I have attached some pics for you. We will treasure the gorgeous pieces and i’m sure you will be hearing from us again at the next family wedding.  Kind Regards Laura xxx
