Margolily Top Hat Top Cat

Sunday, May 27th, 2012

Margolily has come over all a blush! Stunning, darling Janis wore her Margolily bridal headpiece all the way to the jacuzzi and showered Margoily with praise! Gorgeous photos and gorgeous words! The beautifully original coat Janis wears was made by Lisa Orr Carr previously of Raw Vintage, spot her in team flower below!

“I hope you enjoy seeing a few photos of your wonderful work; I wore it – very comfortably – all day and all night, in fact it was the last thing to come off eventually when I thought it might get wet in the jacuzzi…!  So it was even worn in there for a few minutes! Thanks again for EVERYTHING; you were totally amazing and really got the essence of what I was looking for. I am truly grateful to you – my whole idea for the outfit began with the thought of a wee top hat and I could never have imagined having one so beautiful.”

margolily treasure hunt

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

One of the biggest treats for margolily is all the gorgeous treasures I am lucky enough to work with! Here are some pieces collected by magpie brides for their bouquets and headpieces. Just now I am on the hunt for crystal, pearl and rhinestone vintage jewellery…a weekend ahead of the best kind of shopping and rummaging I think!  I popped in to new place Ruby Tuesday’s Vintage Boutique last week and came away with a perfect gold brooch for a bridal haircomb and also a fandango pair of cherry red high heels for Margolily herself!  Glasgow Vintage and Second Hand shops look out!

margolily is feeling the love

Monday, January 31st, 2011

At home margolily feels the love for Greg Banjo, Pearly Pussy Cat and Morley Tiger Cat. Day to day margolily feels the love for sewing on Sundays, Jarvis Cocker on 6Music, salted caramels and piles of unread books and photo albums and a good find in a charity shop and craft night and Kirrie girls and the Arlington Baths…and margolily has a lot of love. Right now though margolily is feeling the love for Glasgow and most especially the creative Glasgow family within! Margolily has been showing her wares at a few events so far this year and here are some of the super cool designers, vintage collectors and boutiques I’ve been encountering along the way…Ok first up for margolily love are Butler and Taylor – the vintage lasses who have amassed gorgeous crockery and chic tableware to bring to your event and also they have very cool hair! More love to E.Y.I.Love who dedicate themselves to finding out everything you love to design your wedding stationery and anything else you think of in their print studio and also they are lovely and love all kinds of ace things themselves! Next love to MeeMee Couture who will design something wild, something gorgeous, something simple, a  wedding gown, disco shorts, this girl rules and also she was wearing an incredible handmade ruffle/shawl/bolero/scarf affair stitched with glow in the dark thread when I met her! Ooh and double love she also has a very cool sister who has the most beautiful traditional tattoos and more than that spent her last cash bucks on margolily feathers! Yass! Last love, like a last Rolo, goes to Jennie Loof, who introduced margolily to also loved Sylvia at Bold Souls, but also skipped out the door wearing margolily feathers, has the most gorgeous range of clothes margolily has seen and is all round super ace and lent margolily her table!  Sharing the love this weekend Margolily will be at Granny Would Be Proud on Sunday 6th Feb at the Hillhead Book Club xx

starry eyed and happy christmas wishes

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Happiest Christmas wishes to you all! Margolily is going to be in hibernation with some figgy pudding and gallons of mulled wine for the next few weeks! When I am not prancing around in my fantasy Christmas jumpsuit a la Sagittarius in Vogue…

…I may begin some icy, sparkle, headpieces inspired by snowflakes and constellations, a beautiful silver and ice blue piece is on the go for a January wedding in Australia! In the meantime, happy wishes to you for 2011…it’s going to be a good ‘un! Margolily will emerge from her squirrel hideaway to exhibit with the Glasgow Girls Wedding Guide on January 23rd. Margolily is also delighted to have joined the Granny Would Be Proud family too, yeeha! Love and wishes and thanks to each and everyone who joined margolily in a splendid 2010.

margolily plays shops

Monday, November 15th, 2010

Maybe working in the Sentry Box toy shop all those years ago or once upon a time trying to sell my wee brother pegs, or perhaps many Blue Peter Bring and Buy Sales set the scene for a margolily gal to like playing at shops! For this week truly has been a Mary Portas style shopping extravaganza! Headed though to Edinburgh to visit lovely Karina at Kakao by K. Alongside luxurious and exclusive clothing in Kakao you will find classic, Chanel inspired, vintage glamour margolily headpieces. At the moment Kakao are also stocking a real Hollywood starlet treat, black and gold flecked bow and netting headpiece, beautiful! Stopped off at Fabhatrix in the Grass Market, where amongst a treasure trove of hats and headpieces you will find margolily’s tartan and Scottish inspired pieces. In Glasgow margolily pops up at markets such as Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair, Supermercado at the Barras and Sloans. At the markets you get the perfect chance to have a gab with me as well as try on headpieces in every colour. Pieces available at the markets usually have a magpie treasure inspiration using lots of vintage brooches and jewellery in their designs. If you can make it margolily will be at Sloans this very Saturday 20th November 11-5pm

Brides and wedding guests find margolily in all kinds of places from wedding shows to magazines, from dress designers to friends. Wedding pieces are often made using remnants from bespoke dresses, pearls and sparkle. Margolily will happily attend hair trials and dress fittings to make what you want exactly yours.

Of course your margolily headpiece may come straight from your imagination..in which case margolily will work with you to create something stunning! Check out the gallery too!

Ooh and you can find me on Folksy too for all manner of treats in any style you wish!

pheasant and tweed lady by margolily

Margolily has been away on her holidays and a stack of sewing awaits but before I get to that first to get to this!! Super congratulations to Dawn for correctly guessing the inspiration behind margolily’s ginormous headpiece worn at the vintage fair!  Lucky Dawn wins a £10 voucher to use towards any margolily treat her heart desires! The headpiece combined tweeds and feathers following the RSPB’s description of pheasants both lady and gentleman:

“A large, long-tailed gamebird. Males have rich chestnut, golden-brown and black markings on body and tail, with a dark green head and red face wattling. Females are mottled with paler brown and black”

all the fun of the fair for margolily

A super duper day for margolily at the QMU yesterday! Restrained enough not to go crazy at all the stalls bursting with vintage goodies and lots of gorgeous gals now rocking their new margolily headpieces! Before the stall was ransacked by bigspenders it looked like this…

Margolily brain now swirling with ideas…I think some fluffy, furry pieces might be debuting soon and a Chanel inspired step by step margolily commission may follow too! Great chatting to so many creative types, chocolate makers, film makers, art school teachers and stylish folks! Thanks to lovely friends for popping by and feeding me sweeties, water and love xx

Come down to the QMU Sunday 19th September 12-5pm…there will be masses of vintage delights and goodies! Yippeedoodah!
